Use of Shadows

I’ve been browsing around, reading a few good blogs when I stumbled upon a wonderful article. There was a very good point which has been brought up by the author. When using shadows, the shadow color should be the darkened color of the background. For example: If the background is red, would it be correct to use a black shadow? Usually, if it’s colored you would have a dark colored shadow inherited by the background, not a saturated color. Now, for saturated colors (black/white/gray) you could use a black shadow, personally I never use black unless it’s really that dark. This is a good idea to keep in mind whenever you have to use shadows.

Languages

Recently I began checking out some tutorials, as to my desire to learn more programming languages for the web. I have started using PHP back at the time when I created Linkr. The main reason was for me to learn different languages. I got the hang of basic PHP then. Now, I am begging to lean JavaScript, along with jQuery to add more effect, and improve the user experience. I found some great recourses, which will help me learn PHP, JavaScript and jQuery – including some wonderful screencasts by Jeffery Way from the ThemeForest blog, and NetTuts+. I also made some changes in my own experience. I’ve started trying out Aptana, which was a good program, but I have been missing some key elements I’ve been looking for as my switch away from Notepad++. Right now I am trying out the Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, which is in beta stages at the moment. I’m quite happy with it, and its capabilities to help me out through out the coding process. Anyways, I am working on a redesign for the Linkr project’s website, which might include lots of awesome stuff to increase the user experience for us all. Cheers.

OhLittl Free Template

OhLittl is the name of a free template I put together with XHTML, and CSS. I was inspired by the vCard type websites, and wanted to create something simple for a freebie. It contains a very simple structure and framework. It doesn’t have a genre of websites to fit in with, but mainly aimed at small websites. You can customize it however you’d like, you can even make a portfolio out of it. Read More.

Boom.

I’m back! A brand new and clean design being the third version. This is the blog portion of the website, named “newspaper”. I’ve decided that comments are a little too much, don’t ask me why. Hereby comments will be disabled. If you would ever like to communicate with me, there are some options for you in the footer. I’m not really looking for building a community, or blogging. I’ve decided to go into the big world of web design, and just code, and code. I’ll be releasing some freebies, which I will post right here in the newspaper.
